Everyone has mitochondria in their cells. They provide 90% of the energy our bodies need to stay alive. But when your mitochondria don’t work properly, it can be life threatening. This is known as mitochondrial disease, or mito.
One in 200 people have genetic changes that put them at risk of developing mito.
Mito can be inherited or caused by environmental factors, like ageing or illness.
Mito can affect any organ and cause any symptom at any age.
Every 6 days, a baby is born in Australia that will develop a severe or life-threatening form of mito.
The Bloody Long Walk is operated by the Mito Foundation.
100% of profits go directly to support people impacted by mito, research into treatments and cures, and raising awareness of this disease.
